Your Couch Potato Guide: The Best TV shows of 2017 (so far)

Ever since I was little, storytelling and writing have been my favorite pastimes, so it was destined that I would fall in love with watching TV.

Although I have been busy lately, between studying for AP exams, the ACT, and other tests, I had a little bit of time over spring break to watch some new shows. I discovered several new amazing series, which I wanted to share with Zeitgeist readers.

Whether you want to sit back and relax this summer or simply need a new addictive show to get you through a long plane flight, this list will provide you with everything from comedies to political thrillers. Enjoy!

1) “TRIAL & ERROR” on NBC
Genre: Comedy

I cannot say enough incredible things about this quirky and hilarious TV show. Read my full review that I wrote for my school’s newspaper here.

2) “NOBEL” on Netflix
Genre: Political thriller

This Netflix original brilliantly tells the stories of Norwegian special forces in Afghanistan, and much of the first season focuses on a set of complex political and personal events when the soldiers return home from war. I binge-watched all 8 episodes within a week! It’s truly that good!

3) “BIG LITTLE LIES” on HBO
Genre: Drama/mystery

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, this thrilling miniseries focuses on the lives of three mothers whose perfect lives are not quite as ideal as they seem. It was so hard to wait each week for a new episode to air, and now that “Big Little Lies” has finished its run, I highly recommend blocking out an entire Saturday to watch the entire series in one day. You’ll be addicted within minutes!

4) “PRISON BREAK” on Fox
Genre: Drama

The gang is all back together! 8 years after the original show ended, Fox’s “Prison Break” is back! I loved the first four seasons of Prison Break, and I am so excited that the brilliant show is now back in 2017. It airs on Tuesdays on Fox.

5) “LOVE” on Netflix

I’ve only watched a few episodes of this show, but I’ve really enjoyed it thus far. Created by Judd Apatow, this Netflix original tells the story of several people trying to figure out relationships in Los Angeles. One of the funniest storylines in the show revolves around Gus, the main character, who’s an on-set tutor for a young actress (Iris Apatow). Their scenes are laugh-out-loud funny.
