Located on Westwood Boulevard, Tacos Tu Madre has brought a new generation of restaurants to the area. The menu is a combination of classic Mexican dishes, such as various types of tacos but also includes more modern creations like red velvet churros. YES. Red. Velvet. Churros. I had to order them for dessert, as they are a fusion of two of my favorite desserts! I enjoy anything red velvet flavored, and I can always go for a churro! For my entree, I ordered the Vegan Bahn Mi Bowl with kale, and it was delicious. Although I am not vegan, I often enjoy meat substitutes like beans, lentils, tempeh, and tofu. For bowls served at the restaurant, there is an option of either a rice or kale base. My friend ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos, which were served on crispy tortilla shells. The casual restaurant also offers breakfast items, and I am dying to go back and try their breakfast burrito, which involves truffle guacamole (yum!!) Tacos Tu Madre’s atmosphere is fantastic as well; the charming walk-up window is covered in large calavera mural, painted colorfully in pink and green. I highly suggest visiting Tacos Tu Madre if you are craving Mexican food that is delicious but not too heavy. I would describe the culinary style as California-Mexican because there are some healthier options on the menu, but the restaurant still offers traditional Mexican recipes that are equally delicious!
