Manus x Machina

The highly anticipated “Manus x Machina” exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City includes everything from ensembles from the early 20th century to a 2014 dress designed by Christopher Kane. The exhibition will address many significant events in fashion, including the founding of haute couture and when the sewing machine was originally invented. The theme of “Manus x Machina” revolves around fashion in an age where technology has a large presence and influence. The exhibition was the theme of this year’s Met Gala, and the dresses were incredible; my personal favorite, however, was Claire Danes’ Zac Posen gown. It glowed in the dark, and the thought process behind the design was absolutely brilliant! Now that is a winning combination of fashion and technology.

With over 150 ensembles from countless decades, the exhibition in the museum’s famed Costume Institute focuses on the relationship between handmade and machine-made items in fashion design throughout history. “Manus x Machina” will be on display until August 14, 2016, and I cannot wait to visit such a special exhibition.
